Branch Officer
Foreign firms involved in manufacturing and trading activities overseas are authorized to establish Branch Offices in India to avail of following purposes:
Exporting or importing of goods
Offering professional or consultancy services
Initiating research work involving the parent company
Encouraging technical or financial alliance between Indian companies and parent or overseas group company
Representing the parent company in India and acting as buying/selling agents in India
Giving out services in Information Technology and improvement of software in India
Presenting technical support to the products supplied by the parent/ group companies.
Carrying out manufacturing activities on its own is not permitted to a branch office; however these can subcontract the same to an Indian manufacturer. Branch Offices set-up with the sanction of RBI, may well remit proceeds of the branch outside India, after meeting up of appropriate Indian taxes subject to RBI guidelines. Authorization for establishing a branch office is approved by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
